Agumbe Hill Station

is located in shimoga district about 365 kms from bangalore at an height of 836 Mts above the sea level. The Famous novel Malgudi Days by R.K Narayan was shot here. 

This beautiful hill station is famous for its sunsets, waterfalls and for its research unit on king cobras. 

Located between Malnad and Western Ghats the surrounding land is blessed with rich flora and fauna. Here animals are found in abundance. Hence natural reserves forests like Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary and Kudremukh National Park are located near Agumbe. 

Kunchikal Falls is the highest waterfall in India which is about 455 Mts in height. The source river for this fall is River Varahi. Barkana Falls and Onake Abbi Falls are the other falls that can be visited near Agumbe.

It is always advisable to take a local guide along the trek routes, especially along the ones through the dense forests of Agumbe hills. You can also enroll for trekking with the Karnataka Mountaineering Club. For adventurous travelers there are trekking trails but one needs permission from the forest department before setting out on journey. In Karnataka Agumbe is also known as the place that receives highest rainfall. 

The Agumbe hill station attracts many because of its 14th century temple, dedicated to Lord Gopalakrishna, which exhibits Hoysala art.

How to Reach Agumbe Hills:

By Air: Mangalore is the nearest airport which is 100 km away.
By Train: Shimoga is 90 km away and Udupi is 55 km away are the nearest Railway Stations to Agumbe.
By Road: You can get buses from Bangalore and other places to Agumbe or to Theerthahalli and then onto Agumbe.
