Pattadakal also known as Kisuvolal (`Red Town') Is 22 kms from Badami & about 514 Kms from Bangalore. The temple here is dedicated to lord Virupaksha and the Mallikarjuna swamy which was bulit by queens of Vikramaditya II during 734 AD - 744 AD in memory of his victory against Kanchi, the then Pallava capital and the temples were named by them after themselves as the Lokeshwara (by Lokadevi) and Trailokeshwara (by Trailokadevi).
The other major temples here are the Sangameshwara, Chandrashekhara, Jambuling and Kadasideeshwara.
