About Talakad or Talakadu
Talakad is situated on the banks of river cauvery at a distance of 45 kms from Mysore & 142 kms from Bangalore via kanakpura road. Talakad is know for its sand dunes spread in large area. This palace was the capital of gangas when they ruled over karnatka later it was ruled by cholas of Tamil Nadu from 11th to 12 th century. After cholas it was Hoysalas ruled this place from 12th century.
The Pathaleshwara, Maruleshwara, Arkeshwara, Vaidyanatheshwara and Mallikarjuna temples are the five Lingams believed to represent the five faces of Shiva. Panchalinga Darshana is a fair held once every 12 years to honour these five shiva templesThe Panchalinga Darshana is held on a new moon day in the month of Karthika when two stars conjoin, the stars of Khuha Yoga and Vishaka, last Panchalinga Darshana was held in 2009.
