Sringeri Mutt : Sringeri mutt is located in Chikamagalur district on banks of the tiver Tunga. The Vidyashankara temple is a magnificient temple which was built under the patronage of the Vijayanagar empire. This place is the first Mutt or Mata (abode) established in the year 8 A.D by Adi Shankaracharya, the Hindu theologian and exponent of the Advaita Vedanta philosophy.
