Ranganatha Swamy Temple - Karnataka

Ranganatha Swamy Temple

The Ranganatha Swamy Temple is situated in Srirangapatna about 20 kms from mysore & 120 Kms from Bangalore enshrines Lord Vishnu as Ranganatha. It is said that the Ganaga chieftain, Tirumalaiya built this temple in 894 AD. The Ranganatha Swamy Temple was later expanded by the Hoysalas, Vijayanagar monarchs, Mysore Wodeyars and Hyder Ali. The architecture is a mixture of the Hoysala and Vijayanagar styles. The temple has fort like walls and an intricately carved Gopura in Vijayanagar style of architecture. The idol of Lord Ranganatha is in reclining posture on the bed laid out by the serpent Aadi Sesha is about 4.5 meters in length. The main entrance has Chaturvimsati (four) pillars has the cravings of the 24 forms of Vishnu.

This Temple is also called as Adi Ranga which is one of the three ranaganatha swamy temple on banks of river cauvery.

There are many other shrines like Ranganayaki, Narasimha, Sudarshana, Gopalakrishna, Srinivasa, Rama and Panchamukha Anjaneya in the complex.

Dharshana Timings: 07.30 am to 01.00 pm and 04.00 pm to 08.00 pm

By Air : The nearest airport Mysore 60kms & Bengaluru International Airport , 160 kms away.
By Rail : Nearest railhead is at Mysore which is about 20 kms.
By Road : Srirangapatna well connected by KSRTC buses and private taxis operate regularly in this route.


Madhya Ranga Swamy Temple :

There is a beautiful ancient Dravidian temple on the island dedicated to Lord Ranganatha known as Madhya Ranga, which is a pilgrimage center. Lord Ranganatha swamy/Vishnu's idol is in a sleeping pose on Adishesha/the seven-headed serpent. There are one more Ranganatha temples on banks of river Cauvery, which is called as Anthya Ranga at Srirangam, Tamil Nadu.

Route to Madhya Ranga Swamy Temple : BIAL -> Hebbal -> Yeswantapura -> Mysore Road -> Kanakpura Road -> Kanakpura -> Malavalli -> Sathegala Hand Post - 170 Kms
