About Meghalaya

One of the seven State is located in North East of India. The Name The word "Meghalaya" means "The Abode of Clouds" in Hindi and Sanskrit. Shillong being the captial city for Meghlaya.

The State is bounded by Meghalaya in the North, Banladesh to its south and Bangladesh and Mizoram to its east. The State is divided into 7 Districts.

Major Cities of Meghalaya

Shillong - The capital city for the state which is located at an altitude of 4,908 ft above sea level.
Cherrapunjee - a must see tourist destination which is about 56 kms form shillong and also known for its heaviest rainfall in India.

Air transport 
Meghalaya is well connected with airlines with a airport at Umroi. 

Rail transport 
Guwhati is the nearest railway station which is about 103 kms from Shillong.

Road transport 
This state has Excellent road network which connects to Guwahati and other places in north east if india.
