Calcutta was officially renamed to Kolkata in 2001, is the capital city of West Bengal state in India & Second largest city of India. Kolkata is Located on the east bank of the Hooghly river. Kolkata is the principal commercial, cultural, and educational centre of East India, while the Port of Kolkata is India's oldest operating port as well as its sole major riverine port.
The name Kolkata is derived from the name from Kalikata, which is a village name in the area before the British arrival, means the land of Goddess "Kali".
