Uttarakhand previosly known as Uttaranchal was carved out from Uttar pradesh on 9th November 2000. Dehradun the captial city of the state.

The State is bounded by Tibet in the North, Uttarakhand by west, Uttar Pradesh to the south & Nepal by east. The State is divided into 13 Districts.
