              Patna is the capital of Bihar state is located on the south bank of the river Ganga.  
             Patna was known as Pataliputra during 600 B.C.. Patna was  the capital of the Magadha Empire under the Haryanka, Nanda, Mauryan, Sunga, Gupta, Pala and during the Islamic period the seat of power for the Suri dynasty.
             
             
             Ancient Patna or Pataliputra was the seat of learning fine arts. The present modern patna is now the most   populous   city of Bihar.
