Ooty Also known as Ootacamund is often referred to as 'The queen of Hill station of South India' is situated in nilgiris ranges which is about 105 kms from coimbatore & is situated at an altitude of 2240 Mts above the sea level & is spread to about 36 Sq. Km in area.
Places to visit in ooty
Botanical Garden: A beautiful garden where the flower show is held in month of May every year. one can see the fossil of a tree which is about 20 Million years old.
Lake : The lake in ooty is an artifical lake which was constructed in 1824 by Major John Sullivan, the then collector of coimbatore. Boating in this lake is the major activity here.
Doddabetta : This is the highest peak in otty about 2623 Mts above the sea level is about 11 Kms from ooty. One can have a beautiful view of nilgiri Hills Range.
Kalhatty Water Falls : These descend from the Kalhally slopes and about 13 Kms/ 8 Mile from Ooty.
How to Reach ooty :
By Air : The nearest airport is Coimbatore at an distance of 100 Kms.
By Road : Ooty is connected by good motorable road to Chennai and Coimbatore. There are regular bus services connecting Ooty to Coimbatore, Trichy, Bangalore, Madurai, Kanniya Kumari, Mysore, Palghat, Calicut and Tirupati.
By Rail : Ooty on the narrow gauge railway is connected to Mettupalayam which is directly connected to Coimbatore and Chennai.
